SOMETHING NEW
On Sunday 17th June the NEBA Summer Pairs competition will be played at Wearside Bridge Club and instead of Matchpointed Pairs scoring, we will use Butler scoring. As this will be new to many players, Norman Gray has offered this description for your perusal.

BUTLER SCORING

Butler is a form of scoring for pairs events, where each result is imped against the average result for all the tables, sometimes with one or more extreme results removed. The EBU recommended procedure is to remove the top & bottom score for up to 10 results on the traveller, remove the top & bottom 2 scores for 11-25 results and the top & bottom 3 when over 25 results.

If there is a traveller with NS

1 at 690

3 at 680 2040

4 at 650 2600

1 at 620 620

1 at 230

The top and bottom scores are ignored; the average of the other 8 scores is 657.50 rounded to 660 and all 10 scores are imped against 660.
